Installing wordpress is pretty easy, but if you want help to install it, then let me know and I will help you.
Because of the many different server configurations out there I can not guarantee that all installations will work, but I will give you my best advice
Thanks

I highly recommending going with a hosting company that has wordpress as part of the free software with the hosting packages.
I use surpass hosting (http://www.surpasshosting.com/) and through the cpanel you just use fantastico and installing wordpress is literally 1 click and about 2 minutes to get installed. Really easy!

Thats a very good idea. Then you are guaranteed it will work :)

it seems that almost ALL established real hosting companies have this as a feature now.

I use ANHosting for one of my sites but have had a really difficult time upgrading my Wordpress blog there. I am considering going to the Fantastico area and just reinstalling the whole thing, then loading previous content.
Have others had problems upgrading?

I never have a problem when using Fantastico, it really makes the entire process way easier in my opinion

Right now it is the file called config php. I am getting a message that it doesn't exist, but it is there along with the "sample" version of the same file right above it on my screen.
I know the sample file can't be the problem, and I did nothing to removed the existing file.

are you installing the new 2.5. If yes then go to their website. they have extensive help files for the new version!

I have no clue what "chmodded" means, LOL. Right now I have a config and a config sample. I guess I need to set aside some time to dig a little deeper into my problems!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chmod
In your FTP you can do this pretty easy by right clicking the file you wish to chmod and then type some numbers or check some boxes.
Read the installation manual and check if your files are chmodded properly

Oh, I have been there several times. What I am going to do is print out the instructions and then condense them to numbered steps. Things will be easier to figure out when I remove information that might not apply to my situation.

OK, I have to admit that reading this thread makes me think that things are not as easy as I thought! Maybe is the whole lingo of it, but I'm afraid that it would be hard for me to deal with any of those things.

I dont think you should worry. I havent had any problems at all when Ive been installing wordpress on my sites and if you should have one just ask. Its probably easy to solve anyway :)

Well I am finding things aren't nearly as simple as they once were, and I installed Wordpress on a site about 3 years ago.

Ok, here's a question: Do I need to install WorpPress just to have a simple blog? I don't have a website -yet- but I do have blogs. I guess that in that case, WP is pretty much working like Blogger. Am I right?

if you want just a simple blog, just sign up at wordpress.com and get yourself a free hosted wordpress blog. Almost like blogger, but better IMO :)

This thread has been a great help to me. I've been looking for a new hosting company and I think I'll try and find something that will help me out with Wordpress already.

For small and medium sites I would recommend site5.com
Im still using them and they are great, so is the monthly costs :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a look over. I would definitely want something affordable, and of course something that provides a quality service.
